New Year Day 2012 At Meeting House Square

New Year Celebration - Meeting House Square

Meeting House Square, Dublin’s newest, centrally located ‘outdoor indoor’ space provided the perfect setting with an exceptional array of entertainment and activities to help locals and visitors to celebrate the arrival of the New Year 2012.

Following the installation of the new retractable rainscreen by Temple Bar Cultural Trust, Meeting House Square (MHS) was officially reopened, Thursday 15th December, by Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport, Mr Leo Varadkar TD at a special outdoor screening of the film classic ‘Singing in the Rain’.

The 21 metre high retractable canopy consists of four giant umbrellas and was designed by Irish architect Sean Harrington Architects to give greater comfort to audiences at events. It will also to improve the experience for customers and traders at TBCT’s popular weekly markets. The installation of the new retractable canopy means that the space can be used more often, by more people, for more events throughout the year and creates a unique cultural tourism infrastructure for Dublin’s Cultural Quarter and for Ireland.
