NIGERIAN CARNIVAL IRELAND - You, your family and friends are cordially invited to NIGERIAN CARNIVAL IRELAND on 28th August 2010.
The purpose of this festival was to bring Nigerians together to celebrate their culture and despite the difficult to find location it was a huge success.
"Nigeria , a great nation blessed with natural resources, chief of which is its people, is a thorough blend of diverse peoples, cultures and languages. Adjudged to be the happiest people in the world in a scientific survey 2003, Nigerians are ever enthusiastic about their motherland despite the much image negativity that has plagued the giant of Africa."
I must admit that I had no idea where Furze Road was and would not have found it except for the fact that I brought my iPad with me. Furze road is deep within Phoenix park and as there is no regular public transport within the park it is a long walk from any of the gates. There is supposed to be a shuttle bus service that operates on the hour but I was unable to find where it set out from so I walked and on my way I met many lost Nigerians who were about to abandon their search for the carnival.
Eventually I did find the carnival site and I can report that it was worth the effort. The organizers deserve a lot of praise, and I will visit again next year.
This year, Nigeria will celebrate 50 years of Independence on 1st October.
