Gerry Ryan At The Opening Night - Grand Canal Theatre

The inquest into the death of RTÉ presenter Gerry Ryan has recorded a verdict of death by misadventure.
Earlier today, a coroner told the inquest that traces of cocaine found in his system were likely to have triggered the cardiac arrhythmia which led to his death.


Tuesday, 3 May:

The funeral of the late RTE broadcaster Gerry Ryan will take place in Dublin on Thursday.
His body is due to be brought to his family home in Clontarf on Tuesday evening.

The private wake will be attended by the late broadcaster's wife, Morah, their children and close family only.

The funeral will be broadcast from midday on Thursday on RTE 2fm, the station on which he made his name with his daily talk show.

RTÉ broadcaster Gerry Ryan has died at the age of 53.

Gardaí say Mr Ryan was found dead at his apartment on Upper Lesson Street in Dublin at around 1pm this afternoon.

Gerard "Gerry" Ryan (June 4, 1956 – April 30, 2010) was a veteran Irish full-time presenter of radio and part-time presenter of television employed by RTÉ. He presented The Gerry Ryan Show on radio station RTÉ 2fm each weekday morning from 1988 until his death.

Ryan hosted several series of television shows, including Secrets, Gerry Ryan Tonight, Ryantown, Gerry Ryan's Hitlist and Operation Transformation and Ryan Confidential, which recently finished its sixth series on RTÉ One. Ryan was also noted for co-presenting the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest from the Point Theatre, Dublin and presenting an edition of the long-running chat show The Late Late Show in 2008.
